Superintendent's Corner: May 2023

Superintendent’s Corner May 2023

As we close the year out, I thought it might be good to reflect back on the 2022-2023 school year.  So with that in mind, here are some highlights for the year.

  • With the help of ESSER Federal Funds for Covid relief, we have been able to purchase a handicap-accessible bus, put new lock safety hardware on each classroom door, purchase 6 new HVAC units, purchase a new activity bus, and provide staff with an additional bonus check before the holidays.

  • Additional construction projects have included resurfacing the gym floor, basically giving us a new floor.  We also completed concrete work in the area surrounding the gym which should help reduce the chances of the gym flooding again.

  • An Education Foundation was started and around $7,000 was raised.  Funds will go towards paying for student school supplies next year.

  • In the fall we installed the StopIT App allowing students and staff to report inappropriate behavior in an anonymous manner.

  • Throughout the year, we have added various programs including 4-H, E-sports, and the Superintendent’s Cabinet.   Though we are a small school, we want to continue to build on the programs and services we are able to provide our students.

  • Our boy's basketball team provided lots of entertainment and brought a shining light to our school by advancing to the state tournament.  Student Antwann Semenow won the State Championship in the 300 M Hurdles, finished 2nd in the Long Jump and finished 3rd in the 200 M at  the state track meet. Additionally students Kyeson Coble, Evan Madden, and Logan Williams-Stone won the state championship in the State’s Elementary On-Line Math Academic Competition

  • We have implemented programs to strengthen our relationship with the community.  New ideas include the HomeTown Hero, community-wide breakfasts, school-wide garage sale, and the formation of committees with various community members serving.  We also started a WatchDog Dads program allowing positive male role models to participate as volunteers in various roles throughout the year.

We appreciate everyone’s help in making this year a great one!  We hope everyone has a great summer break!
