Family Update 7-14-20

July 14, 2020

Dear Falcon Family,

Our faculty and staff are continuing to plan for the upcoming school year.  We are looking forward to returning to school on August 13, 2020.  A traditional calendar for next year has been approved and is posted on our website.  Please understand we also have a Plan B should there be any changes with the COVID19 situation which could possibly involve a temporary closure should there be an outbreak and/or a large spike in numbers.

Enrollment will be held on July 20th, 21st, and 22nd.  Students whose last names beginning with A-F are asked to come on Monday, July 20th, G-N on Tuesday, July 21st, and O-Z on Wednesday, July 22nd.  Open House will look different as well, to reduce the number of people in the building at the same time. Information on Open House will be distributed at Enrollment, along with information on our website and FB pages.

The State Department of Education has been hard at work and as a result are helping us work to bring more options for connectivity to our communities, and Exact Path which is a tool that will assist in identifying where children are after the closure in the spring.  The tool will also provide resources to help bridge any gaps.  In the event there might be a temporary closure in the upcoming year, planning is being done now to ensure more user-friendly means of working with children at home.

Thank you again to those of you who were a part of the quick turnaround to distance learning this past school year.  We know it was challenging to everyone, but we are appreciative to everyone who played a part in bringing back some type normalcy and review as we worked to finish the last year Falcon Strong.

There were many lessons learned, and we have devoted time this summer to try and better prepare in the event of an outbreak of COVID19 in our area.  To give you an idea of some of the things we have discussed and are considering we have been compiling a list. The team has looked into ways to provide safeguards to make every effort to keep our students safe and healthy while at school.  We ask for your support and patience as we try to limit exposure.  Some of the things we are looking at include:

  • We will begin the day with students going directly to their classrooms/first-period class. Children may be dropped off between 7:50 and 8:00.  We are visiting with our cafeteria staff about sack breakfasts being served in the classrooms.
  • Announcements for the day will be done using Zoom features to kick our days off each morning as opposed to all meeting together in the Auditorium.
  • Teachers will do a temperature check with a nontouch thermometer each morning to ensure no one has a temperature over 100 degrees. You will be called to pick up your child should they have a fever.   Please help us by keeping your child/children home if they are not feeling well or are running a fever.
  • Breaks will be staggered so that all children are not in the hall and restrooms at the same time.
  • Handwashing stations and sanitizer will be available throughout the building.
  • Students will be asked to wipe their desks with a wipe when they are moving to another class.
  • Several classrooms have been added and a few moves made to help with social distancing. Music classes will be held in the Auditorium to allow for more space.
  • A plan is in the works for lunch and recess procedures to look at how we can limit the number of students in one area and have time to thoroughly clean between groups of students.
  • Masks will be made available for students and teachers.
  • During our warm temperatures, we will keep bus windows down to help with circulation, and we will practice social distancing as much as possible.
  • The district has received funding to purchase items to help with the cleaning and sanitizing of our buildings.  Extra efforts will be put into keeping the building in top shape.

Please continue to look for more updates to the list as we continue to plan.  We are doing our best to stay current with information from the Center of Disease Control, World Health Organization, Oklahoma State Department of Health and the Oklahoma State Department of Education.

We have been asked by some of you if there is anything you can do to help during this time.  There are several ways you can assist.  Please understand taking safeguards is our way to try and keep our community and school safe and healthy.  We are charting new waters and ask for your patience and support.

One other way you can help involves transportation to and from school.  If you are able to bring your children to school and pick them up this would help with the numbers of students on buses. We understand this may not be possible and we are working to keep our routes safe and time-efficient.

Keeping our students, families, and community safe and healthy remains top priority.  If you have ideas or concerns you would like to discuss, please feel free to contact the office at 224-3822.

Thank you for your support,

Cindy Schmidt
